So, you’ve purchased a lovely kitchen table and you want to keep it looking nice, right? I’m here to help! Here are my best tips for maintenance and protection.
Keep it Clean
When it comes to cleaning your beautiful wood kitchen table, I can’t stress this enough: KEEP IT SIMPLE! There’s no need for special cleaners.
The best thing for the job is a soft, damp cloth followed by a dry cloth. Chemicals can not only damage the finish of your table, but could possibly void any warranty protection you may have purchased. Also, be sure to clean up spills and messes right away. Juice, coffee or other acidic foods could leave their mark on your table.
Beat the Heat
A hot dish could be your kitchen table’s worst enemy. They can leave cloudy spots or the dreaded white ring.
Beat the heat by using something between your hot dish and the kitchen table. Trivets, hot pads and coasters are your friends. Use them well and you will enjoy your table’s beautiful finish for many years.
What makes the dish too hot to put on your table? At Kitchen Tables & More, we tell our customers: if it’s too hot to touch, it’s too hot for your table.
Protect Your Place
Placemats may seem like only a decorative item, but they can certainly help protect your kitchen table. If your guest slides or drags their plate across the table, it can leave fine scratches in the finish.
Is your kitchen table the homework spot, like I discussed in the last blog? Protect your table with a fun printable mat like this one. You can also make a color copy of pages from a favorite book and laminate them, like this. The possibilities are endless! Any print you can find would make a great, inexpensive and personalized placemat.
